The Guardian: Do terrorism offenders ‘enjoy high status’ in prison?

Do terrorists enjoy a high status in prisons? The Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation, Jonathan Hall QC, tried to answer this question. During his study about terrorism in prisons, Jonathan Hall QC concluded recent staffing cut have increased radicalization problems in prisons both in England and in Wales.

According to Jonathan Hall’s report, fear and violent culture hover in prisons. Charismatic terrorists obtain respect from other prisoners because the crime of terrorism is regarded as a handsome and heroic act against authority.

The Government response to this study sets out its commitments to implement Jonathan Hall QC’s recommendations and go beyond them.
