International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism

August 21 is the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.

SERENY project staff stands in solidarity with victims, survivors, and their families.

It is crucial to acknowledge the importance of prevention when tackling radicalization – including in prisons and probation settings –  which may lead to violent extremism and terrorism: working internationally and interdisciplinarily and promoting international, EU, and CoE human rights standards, SERENY activities aim to

  • foster the adoption and diffusion of evidence-based, human rights-centered programs and practices in detention and probation settings, with a focus on young adults;
  • identify and mainstream best practices on young adult’s human rights;
  • report on training needs of prison staff and the compliance and coherence of domestic law with international and EU standards  in 8 EU countries

to contribute to collective efforts to prevent and contrast radicalization while fostering an environment which is respectful of detainees’ dignity and human rights.
